De additieve productie (AM)-industrie nadert nu de ware schaal, waarbij productie op volume plaatsvindt. Kritieke onderdelen, waaronder miljoenen implantaten en duizenden raketvoortstuwingseenheden, worden regelmatig geproduceerd met 3D-printing. Deze onderdelen zijn waardevolle, essentiële componenten die dag in dag uit worden gemaakt en ze spelen een cruciale rol in de winstgevendheid en het toekomstige succes van hun fabrikanten. Hoewel we dit momenteel zien in raketvoortstuwing en orthopedie, zullen andere industrieën snel volgen. Fase 1 was de oude status quo: iedereen kocht dezelfde machines en probeerde ze zo goed mogelijk te gebruiken. Velen zitten nog steeds vast in deze fase, maar het is niet langer de nieuwste stand van de techniek.
